First Presbyterian Church encourages and welcomes the LGBTQ community in Hartford, CT to get involved and attend our church services. We are cultivating a warm and caring community at our church that spiritually nurtures all of us in our worship, education, fellowship, and active involvement in the mission.
At out church, we have a community of faith that gives inclusive hospitality to all people, regardless of sexual orientation, gender, or gender identity. We focus on the joy and praise of giving thanks, the insights of thoughtful preaching and teaching one another, the embrace of sincere prayer, and the challenge to learn and grow in our mutual love, knowledge, and service of God. Our congregation offers the support of a healing community for life's challenges and transitions that we all go through. We aim to live generously, serve others, and to bear witness to the love and justice of God with open and grateful hearts.
We know it can be difficult to visit a new church for the first time, but we want to make you feel at home at First Presbyterian Church of Hartford, and we want you to feel comfortable when you walk through our doors for the first time. Our church offers a wide variety of programs for adults and children that help our members to grow in their faith and grow in their sense of community in the church. A normal service for us includes scripture reading, preaching, prayer, and music. We usually sing accompanied by an organ, but occasionally we include djemba or African drums or other instruments, and some of our music may be in Spanish or in African or Asian languages! We celebrate the diversity of our congregation, and our membership reflects the diversity of God's world. Every Sunday we end our service with a blessing and sending forth, and we are sent out into the world feeling refreshed in spirit and inspired to live more like Christ. The best way to get to know our church and experience our community is to come and visit us for a Sunday service. We hope you will join us!
