Let's talk about transom windows first, what is it and where did it come from? A transom window is just above the door is was first created to provide ventilation and additional light while still maintaining privacy. They were a common feature in office buildings and apartments before air conditioning became common. It got it's name because it sits above the transom which is a strengthening beam that separates the top of the door from the rest of the wall. Sidelight windows are the narrow vertical windows on each side or just one side of the entrance door. They provide additional light into the home and can add to the aesthetics of your home.
